South Kazakhstan exports agricultural products worth $211 million

South Kazakhstan exported agricultural products worth $211 million since the beginning of the year, the local executive body (akimat) said in a message.

The export of agricultural products increased by 6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. The level of import, in contrary decreased by 4 percent and amounted to $320 million.

The region produced and exported more than 225,000 tons of melons, 148,000 tons of watermelons, about 14,000 tons of grapes and 43,000 tons of cabbage to Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Germany during the first nine months of the current year, according to the message.

More than 145,000 tons of melons and watermelons were exported to Russia.

South Kazakhstan region also exports turkey meat, beverages, canned fish and various types of forage for cattle.

The volume of harvest in the region has increased due to the development of intensive gardening and the use of new technologies. As a result, the share of fruit imports decreased by $99.3 million (33.3 percent) and vegetables by $6.2 million or (4.8 percent).

Presently, 21 enterprises of the region producing food commodities are exporting their products not only to other regions of Kazakhstan, but also to the foreign countries, including Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
