Turkmenistan, USAID eye to expand co-op

Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov has met with the US Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Regional Mission Director for Central Asia Christopher Edwards in Ashgabat city, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in a message Nov. 15.

The sides discussed issues of expanding cooperation between the government of Turkmenistan and the USAID, according to the message.

During the meeting, they noted the need to develop a work plan for the future period of cooperation.

The sides put forward proposals on developing partnership with state institutions of Turkmenistan by implementing a number of joint projects. Spheres of energy, economy and investment were mentioned among the main areas of cooperation.

“Noting Turkmenistan’s interest in ensuring global security, stability and sustainable development in Central Asia and Afghanistan, as well as Turkmenistan’s existing positive experience, the parties put forward proposals to consolidate joint efforts in this direction,” the message said.
