Azeravtoyol OJSC has concluded a contract with the Turkish company Kolin Insaat Turizm Sanayi ve Ticaret to expand the Baku-Shamakhi-Muganly highway section, the World Bank (WB) website reported.

Works on modernization and expansion of the highway are being implemented within the framework of the third road project implemented jointly with the World Bank.

The cost of the contract amounted to 101.67 million manats. The company became the winner of the tender announced earlier by the WB and "Azeravtoyol".

Kolin Insaat Turizm Sanayi ve Ticaret will engage in the expansion of the road from 91 to 107 kilometers. The contract is valid for two years.

Other contenders were the Chinese company Xinjiang Communications Construction Group Co., and the Turkish companies Polat Yol Yapi Sanayi ve Ticaret, Makyol Insaat Sanayi Turizm ve Ticaret and Ozgun Yapi Sanayi ve Ticaret.

The cost of services of these companies was estimated at 88-153 million manat.

The "Third Highway Project" worth $ 356.15 million was approved in 2010. The project includes two directions: (i) reconstruction of the network of main roads of Azerbaijan and transit corridors and (ii) local roads reconstructed within the framework of the regional development strategy. The Baku-Shamakhi-Muganly road reconstruction project provides for its expansion from two-lane to four-lane.

As of the late March 2016, the WB allocated "Azeravtoyol" additional funding in the amount of $ 140 million for the project. The loan is provided through the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD, part of the WB group).

The project is expected to be completed in December 2019.

Azerbaijan has been a member of the World Bank since 1992.
