Cargo transportation volume up in Azerbaijan

In January-October 2017, 185.9 million tons of cargo were transported through the Azerbaijani transport sector that is 1.7 percent more than in the same period of 2016, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee said in a report.

The volume of non-oil goods’ transportation rose by 3.7 percent and totaled 140.8 million tons for the year.

Some 81.5 percent out of the total volume accounted for the private sector in January-October 2017.

Some 63.9 percent of the total volume of cargoes was transported via the motor transport, 26.1 percent – via pipelines, 6.3 percent – via railways, 3.6 percent – via maritime transport and 0.1 percent – via air transport.

Meanwhile, 1.61 billion passengers were transported in January-October 2017 that is 2.2 percent more than in January-October 2016. Major part (88.1 percent) of passengers was transported via motor transport, 11.6 percent – via underground, and the remaining part – via other types of transport.

Moreover, 11.7 million tons of cargo was transported via railways in January-October 2017 that is 8.1 percent less than in January-October 2016.

On average, the daily number of loaded railcars was 345, while the number of unloaded railcars was 414.

Average daily load of carriages going in the northern direction of the railway amounted to 13,100 tons, in western direction – 5,100 tons and in the southern direction – 800 tons.

In January-October 2017, 6.68 million tons of cargo was transported via maritime transport that is 46.1 percent more than in January-October 2016. Some 49.3 percent of transported cargoes accounted for oil cargoes. The volume of cargoes processed at Azerbaijani ports totaled 8.67 million tons in January-October 2017.

Some 118.9 million tons of cargo was transported via motor transport in January-October 2017 that is 2.2 percent more than in January-October 2016.

The volume of passenger traffic amounted to 1.42 billion people (up by 1.7 percent) in the reporting period. Some 96 percent of passengers were transported by buses and 4 percent – by cars.

Moreover, 187.3 million people were transported by subway in January-October 2017, that is, by 5.5 percent more than in the same period of 2016.

In January-October 2017, 2.02 million passengers were transported via air transport that is 18.2 percent more than in January-October 2016.

Around 0.1 percent of air traffic accounted for private sector during the reporting period, the report said.
