Turkey discloses e-commerce turnover

The e-commerce turnover in Turkey amounted to 30 billion Turkish liras in 2016, the Turkish Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications told Trend on Nov. 21.

The e-commerce volume in the country amounted to 25 billion liras in 2015.

"The e-commerce volume is expected to be about 50 billion liras in Turkey till late 2017," the ministry said. “Turkey has a great potential for increasing the e-commerce volume.”

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute, there are 48 million internet users in the country and 43 percent of them use e-commerce services daily.

Meanwhile, 30.8 billion lira accounted for online shopping in Turkey in January-September 2017.

In January-September 2017, 17.5 billion liras out of the total volume of online shopping accounted for retail trade, 10.1 billion lira - the tourism sector (hotel booking), the remaining 3.2 billion lira - online gambling.
