Turkmenistan will take measures to increase the competitiveness of local textile products, Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper wrote.

The issues of providing textile enterprises with cotton raw materials at preferential prices in 2018 were discussed at the recent government meeting.

“Today supply exceeds demand in the world textile market, which creates an acute competition among textile manufacturers,” Turkmen Deputy Prime Minister for Industry Muhammetmyrat Aydogdyev said.

Aydogdyev added that a well thought-out pricing policy in the sphere of providing Turkmen textile enterprises with raw materials will allow using production capacities more efficiently.

More than 1 million tons of cotton are grown annually in Turkmenistan, which is the raw material base for the development of the textile industry. Up to 70 percent of the raw materials are processed.
