Kazakhstan expands export of coal

Kazakhstan exported 23.4 million tons of coal in 10 months of 2017, said the Energy Minister of Kazakhstan Kanat Bozumbayev during the press conference at the Central Communications Service in Astana.

“The largest amount of Kazakh coal is being exported to Russia, Central Asian countries and several European countries. We exported 2.4 million tons of coal to Finland this year, which is a good result. We’ve also started to export coal to Japan,” said Bozumbayev, Kazakh media reported.

He added that Kazakh coal producers supplied 61.8 million tons of coal to the domestic market of the country in 10 months of the current year.

The power plants of Kazakhstan received 74.4 percent (45.9 million tons) from the total amount of coal, produced in 2017. Nine million tons of coal was supplied for communal and domestic needs, which is 20 percent higher compared to the same period of the previous year.

In 2016 Kazakhstan produced 98 million tons of coal and announced its plan to produce 100 million tons of coal in 2017, which was successfully implemented.
