Kazakhstan is on the way to becoming a significant agricultural partner for Iran. The countries already work on supply of Kazakh meat, wheat, grain and other agricultural products to Iran, as well as the construction of a meat-processing plant by Iranian investors in Kazakhstan.

“I cannot say that Kazakhstan became the most important partner in agriculture sphere for Iran, but we should expect progressive moves by the countries in this direction,” political analyst Sohail Mahmood told Trend.

He added that the two countries may also launch joint production of agricultural products, using Iran’s investment potential and technologies and Kazakhstan’s natural resources for further export to other countries.

Expert stressed that Iran also has other significant partners in this sphere, such as Pakistan, which currently remains one of the main importers and exporters of agriculture products, cooperating with Iran.

In early 2017 Iranian and Kazakh officials have signed a memorandum of understanding to broaden cooperation in the field of agriculture. Based on the agreement, Iran's northern province of Golestan and Kazakh side will cooperate to develop agricultural sector in Kazakhstan's Kyzylorda region.

In October 2017 Iranian businessmen expressed readiness to open non-waste meat processing plant in Eastern Kazakhstan.

The plant will function on the territory of the industrial zone in Semey region. It is expected to process small and large cattle meat, as well as produce canned meat and sausage products. The project will be approved in the beginning of 2018.
