Turkey will fine the e-commerce companies that send consumers SMS ads without their consent, the Turkish Ministry of Customs and Trade told Trend.

The ministry said that to fight this problem, a special online platform was created where consumers can place their complaints.

The online platform became operational on December 1.

“In case of a complaint from a customer, the company sending SMS ads will be fined 5,000-20,000 Turkish liras,” the ministry said.

The new online platform will also control the volume of daily electronic commerce in Turkey.

According to the Institute of Statistics of Turkey (TUIK), there are 48 million internet users in the country and 43 percent of them shop online daily.
