Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan seek to cooperate in space industry

Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan intend to cooperate in the field of space communication systems and remote sensing of the earth. Deputy minister of defense and aerospace industry of Kazakhstan Marat Nurguzhin said at a meeting of the parliament, Sputnik reported.

"Turkmenistan launched its first telecommunications satellite and is interested in the experience of using our KazSat system. In May our delegation was in Turkmenistan where it got acquainted with its space infrastructure, and in June there was a return visit of the national space agency of Turkmenistan and they got acquainted with our facilities in Almaty and Astana, " he said.

Nurguzhin noted that the countries agreed to exchange experience in operation of space communication systems. The Turkmen side is interested in using the data of remote sensing of the earth in research and practical application in the sectors of the economy.

"These two issues are currently being worked out," Nurguzhin said, noting that currently the Turkmen is working on the the relevant memorandum.

The first Kazakh satellite, KazSat-1, manufactured by the Russian Khrunichev Center, was launched from the Baikonur cosmodrome in June 2006. The next KazSat-2 satellite of Kazakhstan was launched on July 16, 2011. It is intended for television broadcasting and data transmission in the satellite communication system in the territory of Kazakhstan, Central Asian countries and Russia.

In April 28, 2014, the KazSat-3 satellite was launched from the Baikonur cosmodrome .
