By Ali Mustafayev – Trend:

The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan does not correspond to its potential, Kazakh Energy Minister Kanat Bozumbayev said at a briefing following the 14th session of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation.

"The trade turnover reached at least $120 million in 2016,” he said, Trend's correspondent reported from the event.

“The presidents of both countries set the task to double this figure in the next few years. We worked out a road map, dedicated to the intensification of bilateral cooperation,” said Bozumbayev.

He also added that both sides will take the necessary actions to intensify cooperation in the energy sector.

Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan adopted a "road map" of trade and economic cooperation for 2018-2020 within the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation and signed the final protocol of the 14th meeting of the commission Dec. 7.

The document includes a plan of activities on a wide range of issues, namely, cooperation in energy, economy and transport sectors.
