Uzbekistan and Turkey open new page of economic cooperation

The official visit of the delegation of the Turkish government led by the Deputy Prime Minister Tugrul Turkesh, as well as the Uzbek-Turkish Investment Forum held on May 25, 2017 in Tashkent, gave an additional impetus to the development of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries in trade, economic and investment spheres, Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Sahib Saifnazarov told Trend.

"Effective negotiations with representatives of business communities of Turkey that took place during this forum allowed us to consolidate and outline concrete directions for further expansion of investment, financial and technical cooperation and trade and economic cooperation between the countries," Saifnazarov said.

He also added that the countries approved a detailed plan on practical measures ("road map") in order to timely and qualitatively implement the agreements reached during the visit of the Turkish delegation to Uzbekistan and the Uzbek-Turkish investment forum.

"We concluded five export contracts for the supply of cotton fiber and cable products worth more than $115 million," the deputy minister said.

Saifnazarov also noted that trade between the countries amounted to $1,085.6 billion (29.2 percent more, compared to the same period last year), including exports worth $620.7 million (23,7 percent more, than in the same period of previous year), imports worth 464.9 million dollars (37.5 percent more than in the same period of 2016).

The main products exported to Turkey, according to Saifnazarov, are non-ferrous metals (17.2 percent more compared to the same period last year), chemical products (8.8 percent more, than in mentioned period)), textiles (77.7 percent more than in previous year), electrical equipment (85.1 percent more, than in the previous year), fruits and vegetables (54.2 percent more, than in the previous year), services (15.5 percent more than in the same period of 2016).

"At the same time, we conduct market research and work on studying the demand for goods in the Turkish market in order to increase the trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Turkey up to $3 billion on a regular basis," the deputy minister said.
