As of late October 2017, the number of employees in the banking sector of Azerbaijan amounted to 16, 470 people, according to the country’s banking sector review published by Azerbaijan’s Financial Market Supervisory Authority.
The number of employees in the banking sector increased by 0.8 percent during the month. Thus, as of late September 16,340 people worked in the banking sector of Azerbaijan, and in early 2017 - about 16,950 people.
During the reporting period, 31 banks operated in the country, inclduing two state-owned banks. Out of the total number of banks, 16 banks have foreign capital. In eight of them, the share of foreign stakeholders exceeds 50 percent of the bank’s authorized capital. There are two branches of foreign banks (Bank Melli Iran and the National Bank of Pakistan) operating in Azerbaijan.
As of late October 2017, there were 560 branches and 141 departments of banks operating in Azerbaijan. Last month, the fiogure was 557 branches and 142 departments of 31 banks operating in the country.
