Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec. 13

By Ali Mustafayev – Trend:

The EU may use the approach and system of operation of Azerbaijan’s ASAN service and ABAD public legal entity in its projects, Kestutis Jankauskas, head of the EU delegation to Azerbaijan, said.

He was speaking Dec. 13 in Baku at a signing ceremony of a project to support family business facilities of Azerbaijan.

He noted that the work of ASAN service was highly assessed by Deputy Secretary General for Political Affairs of the European External Action Service Jean-Christophe Belliard during his visit to Azerbaijan.

The EU has already supported ABAD projects, in particular in the Masalli district, and the fact that a farmer can supply own products to major chains of stores, demonstrates importance of such projects, because without them, it would have been much more difficult for rural producers to sell their products, said Jankauskas.

He added that the EU, when participating in such projects, aims to disclose huge potential of Azerbaijan’s districts, the productivity of which is currently lower than could have been.

The level of districts’ productivity in various countries differs from the capitals’ productivity level, however, the task is to increase regional productivity, and both economy of Azerbaijan and the country’s producers will benefit from this, he noted.

On Dec. 13, a document of a joint project to support family business facilities in Azerbaijan’s Sheki-Zagatala economic zone was signed by representatives of the EU, the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President of Azerbaijan and the United Nations Development Program.

Up to 30 families in Azerbaijan’s Sheki-Zagatala economic region will receive support for the development of family business facilities within the project.

The project aims at developing family business in Azerbaijan’s villages. In total, $1.074 million were allocated for the implementation of the project.
