Cargo transportation up in Azerbaijan

In January-November 2017, 206.2 million tons of cargo were transported by Azerbaijan’s modes of transport, that is, by 1.8 percent more than in January-November 2016, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee said in a report.

Non-oil cargo traffic increased by 3.5 percent and amounted to 156.6 million tons for the year.

According to the report, 81.6 percent of the total cargo transported in January-November 2017 accounted for private sector.

Thus, 64.1 percent of the total cargo was transported by motor vehicles, 25.9 percent – by pipelines, 6.3 percent – by trains, 3.6 percent – by ships and 0.1 percent - by planes.

Moreover, 1.79 billion people were carried by passenger transport in January-November 2017, which is by 2.3 percent more than in the same period of 2016.

According to the report, 88.1 percent of passengers were transported by motor vehicles, 11.6 percent by subway and the remaining passengers – by other modes of transport.

Thus, 13 million tons of cargo was transported by trains in January-November 2017, which is by 7.1 percent less than in January-November 2016, the report said.

On average, the daily number of loaded railcars was 348, while the number of unloaded railcars was 419.

Average daily load of carriages going in the northern direction of the railway amounted to 13,300 tons, in western direction – 5,200 tons and in the southern direction – 800 tons.

According to the report, 7.47 million tons of cargo were transported by ships in January-November 2017, or by 44.6 percent more than in the same period of 2016. So, 48.6 percent of the transported cargo accounted for oil cargo.

Some 9.59 million tons of cargo were handled at the Azerbaijani ports in January-November 2017.

According to the report, 132.1 million tons of cargo were transported by motor vehicles in January-November 2017, which is by 2.1 percent more than in the same period of 2016.

Thus, 1.57 billion people were transported by vehicles in January-November 2017 (an increase by 1.8 percent as compared to January-November 2016). Some 96 percent of passengers were transported by buses and 4 percent - by cars.

Moreover, 207.6 million people were transported by subway in January-November 2017, that is, by 5.3 percent more than in the same period of 2016.

Thus, 2.18 million passengers were transported by planes in January-November 2017, that’s by 18.9 percent more than in January-November 2016.

Around 0.1 percent of air traffic accounted for private sector during the reporting period, the report said.
