Uzbekistan’s Karakalpakstan to create six small industrial zones

Six small industrial zones are planned to be created in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Uzbekistan, Uzbekistan National News Agency reported.

The facilities in the territory of those zones will be delivered free of charge for a period of five years. The construction and restoration of engineering and communication networks will be carried out through the state budget.

Within the comprehensive development program of the Republic of Karakalpakstan for 2018-2019, 1,309 projects will be implemented and about 10,000 jobs will be created.

Uzbekistan’s big enterprises are involved in this process. Thus, the Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Combine plans to establish the production of metal structures and non-standard equipment in the Takhiatash district, while the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Combine - ferro-concrete products, sand and crushed stone in the Karauzyak district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.

During his visit to the Takhiatash district, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev gave instructions on the diversification of the economy of Karakalpakstan. Particular attention was paid to the prospects of development of the Tebinbulak iron ore deposit.

The Uzbek president also gave instructions during the visit to the Takhiatash district in January 2017. According to the program which was developed following that trip, 242 projects worth 160 billion soums aimed at the development of industry were implemented.

In 2017, 2,112 projects were implemented and around 11,000 jobs were created in Karakalpakstan.
