Uzbekistan's commercial banks cut cost of services

The commercial banks of Uzbekistan agreed to reduce the cost of services provided to citizens. The tariff policy was revised jointly with the Association of Banks, the Central Bank of the Uzbekistan reported on Dec.19.

Thus, out of 187 types of banking services 63 should be provided free of charge, and for another 86 - the tariffs are reduced by 15 - 95%.

In addition, seven types of banking services, established earlier in foreign currency, are transferred to the national currency.

Furthermore, an agreement was reached among banks to prevent unreasonable overstatement of the cost of services.

The decision was made within the framework of the decree of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev "On measures for further development and maintenance of the banking system " dated Sept. 12, 2017. The document provides for the optimization of the tariff policy with a view to increase the attractiveness of banking services.

In addition, the country's commercial banks are recommended to develop long-term development strategies by April 1, 2018, aimed at their transformation into financially stable and competitive institutions operating on the basis of best practices and international standards.

Currently, 27 banks operate in the banking system of Uzbekistan (three state-run banks, five with participation of foreign capital, seven private and 11 joint stock companies). Their total assets by late 2016 hit 80.4 trillion sums and aggregate capital of 9.4 trillion sums.

The official exchange rate for December 19, 2017 is 8101.62 UZS / USD.
