By Rufiz Hafizoglu – Trend:

Turkey intends to export domestic cars to the world market after mass car production is launched, the Turkish Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology told Trend Dec. 21.

The Turkish domestic cars will be able to compete with those of the world's leading car manufacturers, the ministry said.

"The establishment of the production of domestic cars in Turkey and export of domestic cars to the world markets contribute to the development of the Turkish economy and the automotive industry," the ministry said.

The ministry said that the export of domestic cars to the world markets is one of the most important priorities for Turkey.

The production of four car models is planned to be launched as part of the program of domestic car production in Turkey, the country’s Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology told Trend earlier.

At least 600 cars will account for 1,000 people after the domestic car production is launched in Turkey.

The prices for a new domestic car will correspond to the purchasing power of the Turkish population.

Meanwhile, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has announced the names of companies that will take part in manufacturing of domestic cars.

He noted that those companies are Anadolu Grubu, BMC, Kiraca Holding, Turkcell and Zorlu Holding.

The president stressed that the domestic car production in Turkey will strengthen the country's economy.

Erdogan said that Turkey will start to export domestic cars to the neighboring countries from 2021.

The Turkish president added that a special commission, which will supervise the production of domestic cars, is also planned to be set up.

Turkey ranks sixth in Europe in car production. Models of Ford, FIAT, Renault, Toyota, Honda, Opel, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz and MAN are currently assembled in Turkey.

Moreover, Turkey manufactures local brands of buses, such as BMC, Temsa and Otokar.
