Uzbekistan, Korea to ink preferential trade deal

Uzbekistan and South Korea are planning to conclude an agreement on preferential trade, the Uzbek Foreign Trade Ministry reported.

The issue was mulled at the meeting with Korean Ambassador to Uzbekistan Kwon Yong Woo. The sides mulled issues of practical implementation of the agreements reached during the visit of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Korea on Nov.22-25.

They underlined the need to hold a meeting of a joint working group on the issue of concluding an agreement on preferential trade between Uzbekistan and Korea.

The Korean envoy noted that Mirziyoyev's visit created a favorable background and prerequisites for a significant activation of multi-format cooperation between the two countries.

The sides agreed to continue joint work on the timely and high-quality implementation of the memorandum on cooperation on issues of Uzbekistan's accession to the World Trade Organization and other documents signed during Mirziyoyev's visit to Korea.

Previously the Korean Prime Minister offered to open a center for Uzbek entrepreneurs at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in response to a similar initiative by President Mirziyoyev on the establishment of the Uzbek-Korean business center at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan.

During 10 months of 2017, the trade turnover of Uzbekistan with South Korea jumped up by 36 percent to $ 1.1 billion.
