Kazakhstan Railways sees growth in shipment of grain, flour

Kazakhstan Railways JSC (Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, KTZ) has observed growth in shipments of grain and flour in grain equivalent, Oralkhan Kulakov, head of KTZ-Freight Transportation JSC, said at a press conference Dec. 29.

As many as 8.9 million tons of grain (5.8 million tons accounting for export) and 3.2 million tons of flour (2.4 million tons accounting for export) were shipped this year, he noted.

He added that this year, as always, Kazakh grain and flour was exported to Uzbekistan (2 million tons), Tajikistan (1 million tons), Afghanistan (2.1 million tons) and Iran (2 million tons).

Shipments to these countries grew 364,000 tons in grain equivalent. Shipments of Kazakh grain and flour to Uzbekistan grew 7 percent, to Iran - 26 percent, to Afghanistan - 6 percent.

Transportation mainly grew in November-December this year.
