Iran imports tons of eggs amid bird flu outbreak

Iran has imported about 116 tons of eggs over the past week following reports on the outbreak of bird flu, according to data available on the website of the customs administration of the country.

According to the latest weekly report by the Central Bank of Iran, the prices of eggs in the domestic market grew by 53.7 percent.

The Iranian agricultural ministry earlier announced that the country will temporarily import eggs due to the outbreak of H5N8 Bird Flu in the country.

However, the ministry has highlighted that its policy is to meet the market needs through the domestic production and the issue of imports is a temporary solution.
