Kazakhstan's southern region to become important meat exporter to Iran, Bahrain

Kazakhstan’s Zhambyl region exported over 200 tons of mutton to Iran and Bahrain in 2017.

Previously, Merke em LLP meat processing plant has concluded a contract for the export of mutton with two Iranian companies on export of 4,000 tons of mutton, Kazakh media reported.

"Last year we fully implemented the plan for the export of meat products – we exported over 213 tons of mutton. A of this year, we plan to increase production capacity two or three times," said Sultan Aliaskarov, vice president of the Merke et LLP.

The enterprise has undergone reconstruction, and now its annual capacity is 250,000 tons of sausages and 262 tons of canned meat. Refrigeration units are designed to store up to 350 tons of meat and meat products. The project’s cost amounts to 621 million tenge.

The partnership entered the register of the technical committee for "halal" standardization (Halal refers to food products that are prepared following Islamic dietary laws and regulations that determine what is permissible, lawful and clean).

Zhambyl meat is distinguished by its high taste qualities, it is of high demand not only in Kazakh market, but also in foreign markets, including Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Russian, Bahrain and even neighboring Kyrgyzstan, which itself is a meat producer. Last year Uzbekistan also expressed its intention to purchase meat products of Kazakhstan’s Zhambyl region.
