Number of new enterprises soars in Uzbekistan

In late 2017, the number of newly established enterprises and organizations in Uzbekistan exceeded 41,000, which is 25.2 percent more than the same period last year, the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan said in a message on Jan.12.
The Committee said that the number of enterprises and organizations that ceased their activities, as compared to the same period of the previous year, decreased by 2.7 percent and amounted to 26,500.
As a result, the number of operating enterprises and organizations has increased by 6.4 percent (17,100 units) since the beginning of the year and amounted to 285,500.
The Committee notes that the share of the total number of registered enterprises and organizations was 95.1 percent, respectively, the proportion of inactive in the total number of enterprises and organizations was 4.9 percent, which is 1.1 percentage points less than in early 2017.
"Some 22.1 percent of the total number of operating enterprises and organizations accounted for the share of enterprises and organizations in the sphere of trade, 17.2 percent in industry, 8.5 percent in construction, 7.4 percent in agriculture, forestry and fisheries, 6 percent in housing and food services, 4.2 percent in transportation and storage, 2.2 percent in information and communication, 2 percent in healthcare and social services, and 30.4 percent in other spheres of economic activity , " the Committee said.
Also, as of January 1, 2018, the number of operating enterprises with the participation of foreign capital in Uzbekistan amounted to 5,517 units, of which 3,087 units for joint ventures and 2,430 for foreign enterprises.
In total, the number of operating enterprises with the participation of foreign capital in Uzbekistan is 5517.
