Turkmenistan becoming important transportation hub from China to Iran
Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, Jan. 20
By Huseyn Hasanov – Trend:
Transit opportunities of Turkmenistan’s transport system attract increasing attention of foreign partners, including China, the Turkmen Dovlet Habarlary state news agency reported.
Starting from late December 2017, three railway trains were sent from various districts of China, including a total of more than 130 container carriages with consumer goods.
On Jan. 16, the third container train from a series of trains running for a test on the China-Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran route was sent from Turkmenistan to Iran through the Akyayla railway station.
The first test train on this route passed the Turkmen-Iranian border on Jan. 8, the second – a few days later, on Jan. 12.
They passed through Kazakhstan within three days to Turkmenistan’s Serhetyaka station, and then run 825 kilometers within 15 hours through the Balkan Province to its border with Iran.
“Thus, the total travel time along the China-Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway route was about two weeks, which is on average twice as fast as by sea, which takes from 30 to 40 days,” says the report.
Earlier, it was reported that the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway will give a powerful momentum to the development of the Caspian region.
