By the end of 2017, sown areas of wheat in Kazakhstan’s Kostanay region decreased by 2.8 percent, while the sown areas of oilseeds increased by 30.5 percent.

In 2018, the projected decrease in the acreage of wheat in the region will be 5.9 percent, while the area of oilseeds this year is expected to increase by 26.5 percent, Kazakh media reported.

The agrarians of Kostanay region harvested nearly 5 million tons of grain by the end of 2017.

According to the updated January report of the International Grains Council (IGC), the grain harvest in Kazakhstan in 2017-18 MY (marketing year) is still expected at volume of 17.9 million tons. The forecast was similar in December 2017, yielding by 1.5 million tons to last season's indicator.

In 2015-16 MY, Kazakh agrarians harvested 17.5 million tons of grain.
