In 2017, Azerbaijan’s Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FIMSA) revealed facts of embezzlement of budgetary funds worth almost 7.4 million manats, the Finance Ministry said.
The embezzlement facts were revealed as a result of the monitoring in various schools, medical institutions, executive power authorities, diplomatic missions and other agencies. Over the past year, FIMSA managed to return 6.67 million manats of this to the budget; another 81,800 manats were returned this year.
Cases regarding funds worth 2.33 million manats, involving 10 budget organizations, were sent to the General Prosecutor’s Office in connection with suspicions of embezzlement.
In 2017, over 260 complaints from citizens were considered. The majority of the complaints proved to be justified and the rights of citizens were restored.
