In 2017, Kazakhstan produced 185.700 tons of rice (3.3 percent increase compared to 2016) and 70.500 tons of various cereals (9.1 percent increase compared to 2016).

Rice breeding in Kazakhstan is concentrated mostly in Kyzylorda region (174.900 tons in 2017, 3.1 percent more year-over-year). The list of big companies, working in the region includes "Abzal and K", Agro Holding Baikonur LLP and etc., Energy Prom reported.

Rice areas in three districts of the Kyzylorda region are enough to provide the whole country with rice, according to the head of the region Krymbek Kusherbayev.

"In the past few years, rice producers of the region have provided record yields, not by expanding the areas, but by increasing the yields of varieties. Sales markets for agricultural products expand at the expense of exports, planning to actively develop trade outside the country," Kusherbayeva said.

More than half (57.2 percent) of the produced cereals and rice (production + imports) were used in the domestic market, and 42.8 percent was exported. The volume of exports increased year-to-year by 56.8 percent.
