Uzbekistan begins large-scale cultivation of hot peppers

Uzbekistan will begin large-scale cultivation of hot peppers on the basis of foreign experience.

Land plots for the production of hot peppers will be allocated in five regions of Uzbekistan and in Karakalpakstan under the governmental decree, within the framework of tasks to diversify production and increase exports of fruit and vegetables.

Under the document, more than 17, 117 hectares of land will be allocated to farmers for cultivation. The decree states that the seeds of hot peppers will be imported from abroad, in particular from Indonesia.

The country plans get a harvest of more than 207,000 tons of hot peppers this year.

Under the decree, Kalampir LLC is created in Uzbekistan, which will supply seeds and equipment for farmers. Kalampir LLC will also process and export hot pepper.

Today, world leaders in pepper cultivation are Indonesia, China and Mexico.

Overall, in the world, hot peppers are grown on 4.4 million hectares, with an annual harvest of 68.3 million tons. The harvest from 1 hectare reaches 15-20 tons. From 5 kg of a crop it is possible to receive 1 kg of dried red pepper. One ton of product on the world market is sold for about $9,000.
