Turkey reveals date of transition to domestic base stations

The ULAK base stations, developed in Turkey, will be put into operation in August, Undersecretary for Defense Industries (SSM) of Turkey Ismail Demir tweeted March 12.

He noted that initially it is planned to use 498 domestic base stations.

Development of the ULAK base stations began on Feb. 15, 2013.

ULAK is a joint project of the Ministry of Transport, Maritime and Communications of Turkey, SSM and the Turkish defense company ASELSAN.

ULAK supports 4.5G networks. The base stations were successfully tested in March 2017.

The cost of the project has not been revealed.

In 2017, mobile operators in Turkey had more than 76.616 million subscribers.

Forty-seven mobile operators have been registered in Turkey, only three of which operate – Avea, Turkcell and Vodafone.
