Kazakhstan increases production, export of lead

In January 2018, Kazakhstan exported 7,500 tons of raw lead, which is 74 percent more than in 2017. The value of lead export reached $18.1 million, increasing almost twice, compared to the previous year.

In 2017, Kazakhstan exported 126,100 tons of raw lead - 1 percent more year over year.

The main importers of Kazakh lead are Vietnam and Spain.

The use of lead in the domestic market of Kazakhstan, in turn, increased by 20 percent to 24,200 tons in 2017.

Lead production in lead concentrate amounted to 15,000 tons in 2 months of 2018, which is 8.7 percent more than in the same period of 2017.

The country also produced 843.500 tons of lead-zinc ores in two months of 2018. However, this is 13.6 percent less than in two months of 2017.

Companies such as Kazzinc, a subsidiary of the Swiss Glencore International (a large integrated zinc producer) and Nova Zinc LLP, a subsidiary of Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant, are involved in the extraction of lead in ore and concentrates in Kazakhstan.

The production of raw lead in Kazakhstan also increased by 11.2 percent in 2017, to 26,400 tons, compared to 2016.
