The second wave of privatization in Kazakhstan has started. The IPO (initial public offering) of a number of large companies of the quasi-sector is to start in the second half of this year, Kazakh media outlets report.

The National Fund of Kazakhstan received 108 billion tenge in 2017 from the privatization of state assets.

Generally, 546 organizations were withdrawn from the state sector in 2017 (including 190 sold and 162 organizations liquidated as part of the privatization program).

In late March, Minister of National Economy of Kazakhstan Timur Suleimenov stressed that 19 assets of national holdings and two assets of republican ownership are planned for sale.

Total income from the sale of top assets in 2017 amounted to 61 billion tenge, which is 20 percent more than their book value. Such large companies as Kazakhtelecom, Kazatomprom and Air Astana will also be put on IPO in 2018.

The manager of the International Financial Center Astana (IFCA) Kairat Kelimbetov said the privatization of the national companies of Kazakhstan could begin in the second half of 2018. He stressed that Samruk-Kazyna JSC intends to privatize such companies as Air Astana, KMG and Kazatomprom.
