Kazakhstan, Lithuania expand co-op in transport-logistics sector

The Minister of Investment and Development of Kazakhstan Zhenis Kasymbek and Lithuanian Ambassador to Kazakhstan Vytautas Nauduzas discussed issues of investment cooperation, development of transport and logistics infrastructure, transit transportation, as well as interaction in the field of civil aviation, the press service of the Ministry of Investment and Development of Kazakhstan said in a message.

Kasymbek stressed high dynamics of development of bilateral relations in recent years between the countries, which affected the growth of transit traffic by rail between Kazakhstan and Lithuania by 27.1 percent.

The minister invited the Lithuanian companies to take an active part in the implementation of the transit potential of the two countries within the framework of the One Belt One Road initiative.

The positive dynamics of economic cooperation between Kazakhstan and Lithuania is maintained in 2018 as well.

In January 2018, the volume of goods transported by rail between Kazakhstan and Lithuania amounted to 15,500 tons, increasing by 9.600 tons compared to the same period of 2017.

In 2017, the commodity turnover between Kazakhstan and Lithuania increased more than twice (122.7 percent) compared to 2016 ($324.4 million) and amounted to $722.3 million. Kazakhstan’s export to Lithuania increased by almost 2.5 times (130 percent) and amounted to $554.3 million compared to 2016 ($240.9 million).

On May 27, 2018, Kazakhstan's SCAT airline plans to open a new air service in Astana-Vilnius direction (flights will be performed twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays at Boing 737).
