Uzbekistan's Uzsanoatexport JSC trade house has been opened in Tehran and a business forum with participation of officials and entrepreneurs from both Uzbekistan and Iran has been held, the press service of the Foreign Trade Ministry of Uzbekistan stated on April 17.

These activities were carried out as part of the 12th meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee (IC) for Trade, Economic, Science and Technical Cooperation between Uzbekistan and Iran at the Trade Development Organization of the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade in Tehran.

Export contracts on supply of textile goods, beans and dried fruit and vegetable products was signed upon the completion of the business forum.

The two sides discussed a number of topics within the IC, including the draft bilateral trade agreement providing for preferential customs regime for certain trade articles from both sides. The sides agreed to prepare and exchange lists of the goods during a month, as well as to organize next talks in Tashkent.

The sides also discussed to establish Uzbek-Iranian Business Council with participation of the commerce and industry chambers of both countries, which will lead to closer partner relations between the small and medium businesses and will assist solution of financial, legal and other issues concerning their activity.

Among the topics discussed is the preparation for signing of a memorandum on development of electronic information exchange between the State Customs Committee of Uzbekistan and Customs Administration of Iran. Main goals of the initiative are to stimulate mutual trade and simplify customs procedures during registration of export and import operations.

“One of the key directions of the Uzbek-Iran relations is the cooperation in transportation. We are aiming at optimizing the existing transit tariffs jointly with the Iranian counterparts. That will allow increasing the competitiveness of goods of both sides, including products with high added value,” Uzbek Minister of Foreign Trade Jamshid Khojayev noted.

The sides also discussed acceleration of commissioning of the Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman, China-Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran and Trans-Afghanistan transportation corridors.

The Iranian side said they will make every effort to successfully complete construction of the Haf-Herat railway, which will become a continuation of the currently constructed Mazari-Sharif-Herat line and will allow significantly increasing trade turnover in the region due to lower rates and shorter supply time.
