The development of transport infrastructure will help to bring cooperation between the border regions of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan to a new level, the Kazakh media reported.

The message of "24kz" Agency says that akim (head) of Mangistau region of Kazakhstan Eraly Tugzhanov, recently noted that the construction of a highway from Kazakhstan's Kenderli to the border of Turkmenistan - 164 kilometers – would probably start in September.

"They [Turkmenistan] also have the same understanding. If we start construction, this work should be mutual," the Kazakh regional head is cited in the message.

It is expected that this project will create zones of cross-border trade and increase trade between the border countries.

"Besides, Aktau and Turkmenbashi are port cities. The second international trade port will open in Turkmenbashi in a month, from where the goods will be transported to Kazakhstan's harbors", said Tugzhanov.

In many respects, Mangistau of Kazakhstan and Balkan velayat (region) of Turkmenistan are similar. Oil and gas and chemical industries dominate in these regions, and both regions are large transport and logistics hubs. The regions are connected by sea, rail and road. The issue of establishment of common flight connection is also under consideration.
