The State Customs Committee (SCC) of Azerbaijan intends to carry out important structural and personnel reforms, Chairman of the SCC Safar Mehdiyev told reporters May 2.

He said, the development of trade and business creates the need to reform infrastructure and customs authorities.

"It is necessary to eliminate shortcomings in the infrastructure of the customs authorities, increase transparency in relations between the customs authorities and the business environment and carry out serious personnel reforms. In the future, both business representatives and customs officials should conduct their activities within the framework of the law, and all illegal actions will be strictly suppressed. Initial meetings have already been held for customs officials, instructions have been given to all senior personnel in this direction," Mehdiyev said.

The head of the SCC said that in the future all the necessary technical capabilities will be used to provide entrepreneurs with the free conduct of export-import operations.

"The formation of a transparent environment will further increase the role of Azerbaijani customs. As for structural changes, there will be new proposals and solutions in this direction in the near future," Mehdiyev said.
