Kazakhstan increases defense spending by nearly 20%

The government of Kazakhstan allocated nearly 80 billion tenge for the development of country's defense capacity in the first 2 months of 2018.

The total defense spending from Kazakhstan’s main and regional budgets amounted to 78.9 billion tenge in January-February 2018, compared to 65.9 billion tenge of the same period of 2017 (an increase of 19.8 percent).

From 78.9 billion of defense spending, 98.5 percent accounted for the republican budget and the rest 1.5 percent (1.2 billion tenge) account for regional budgets.

Kazakhstan’s regional budgets allocated 25.9 billion tenge for the country’s defense industry, which is 74.8 percent more than in 2016 (14.8 billion tenge).

Almaty city leads in the list of Kazakhstan’s regions and cities with largest amount of the defense budget (5.3 billion tenge, which is 20.4 percent of the total volume of the defense spending of Kazakhstan), followed by the Almaty region (15.8 percent of the total defense spending of Kazakhstan, 4.1 billion tenge).

South Kazakhstan region closes the top three leaders with 13.2 percent of the total defense spending of Kazakhstan (3, 4 billion tenge).
