Volume of deposits in Kazakhstan’s second-tier banks down

The total volume of deposits of second-tier banks (STB) of Kazakhstan decreased by 1.1 percent (177.8 billion tenge) in March 2018, compared to March 2017, and amounted to 16.4 trillion tenge.

In March 2017, the volume of the deposit portfolio of the country’s second tier banks showed an increase of 4 percent, compared to the same period in 2016, Kazakh media outlets reported.

In 2010-2018, the imbalance in the structure of deposits of Kazakhstan's STB dropped to a minimum.

If at the end of March 2010, corporate deposits predominated in the portfolio of deposits with a significant preponderance of 72.9 percent versus 27.1 percent of retail deposits, by the end of March 2018, the share of legal entities' deposits accounted for 50.8 percent of the total amount of deposits of Kazakh STBs and the share of retail deposits – for 49.2 percent.

In 2017, this indicator was 54.4 percent against 45.6 percent, respectively.

From March 2017 to March 2018, the volume of deposits increased in half of the banks of Kazakhstan (16 out of 32).

The leader in terms of deposits is Kaspi bank, with an increase of 177.7 billion tenge (21.9 percent), up to 990.5 billion tenge. The share of the total amount of deposits of Kazakhstan's STBs increased from 4.9 percent to 6 percent.

Sberbank ranked second, increasing the portfolio of deposits by 145.6 billion tenge (13.1 percent), to 1.3 trillion tenge. The share of the total deposits of Kazakhstan's banks increased from 6.7 percent to 7.6 percent.

First Heartland Bank came in third with an annual increase of 130.4 billion tenge (15.1 times), up to 139.7 billion tenge.

The share of the total deposits of Kazakhstan's STB increased from 0.1 percent to 0.8 percent.
