Ministry: Self-driving trains to be used on new lines of Istanbul metro

Construction of new metro lines, on which self-driving trains will run, is underway in Istanbul, the Turkish Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications told Trend on May 8.

The ministry said that one of such stations, Yenikapı-Halkalı, will be in the Asian part of Istanbul, and its commissioning is scheduled for 2019.

For new metro stations, new self-driving trains will be purchased.

The first metro line, on which self-driving trains run, was opened in Istanbul in December 2017.

The length of the metro line is 10.5 kilometers.

Presently, Istanbul’s metro consists of eight lines, six of which are in the European part of the city. There are about 70 stations in Istanbul metro, the length of its lines is 122 kilometers.
