A World Bank (WB) mission will visit Baku in early June to study the progress as part of the project on the modernization of Azerbaijan’s statistical system, a source in the bank’s Baku office told Trend May 21.

As part of the technical assistance, the WB helps Azerbaijan work out a national strategy for the development of the statistical system for 2018-2030, as well as a detailed plan for 2018-2022 to develop capacity in the field of human resources and ICT. To this end, the bank allocated a grant worth $250,000 to Azerbaijan.

By the end of this year, it is planned to sign a number of contracts as part of the project. Thus, a contract worth $10,000 for rendering audit services will be signed in June.

The development cost of the strategy itself and the detailed plan are estimated at $170,900. It is expected that the corresponding contract will be signed at the end of July this year.

The source noted that the implementation of the project approved in February 2017 should be completed in June 2019.

Azerbaijan joined the WB Group in 1992.
