Azerbaijan will reduce tax burden on representatives of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), Azerbaijani Minister of Taxes Mikayil Jabbarov said May 25 at a conference dedicated to Entrepreneur’s Day while commenting on the amendments proposed to the Tax Code.

The minister noted that extensive work is underway in this direction with Azerbaijan’s Agency for the Development of SMEs.

“Major part of the amendments to the Tax Code is aimed at reducing the tax burden for micro and small business representatives,” Jabbarov said. “The work continues and we believe that this will positively affect the development of this business segment.”

Regarding other changes to the Tax Code, the minister noted that restoration of tax accounting will become another direction of the amendments. In addition, it is planned to tighten measures for systematic tax violations, he said.

The package of amendments to the Tax Code is already at the stage of interdepartmental discussions. The amendments’ package will be sent to the Azerbaijani government for consideration as part of the process of the state budget formation for 2019.
