Import to Uzbekistan exceeds export by 26%

In January-May 2018, import in Uzbekistan exceeded export by over 26 percent, the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan stated June 11.

Reportedly, the foreign trade turnover of Uzbekistan in the first five months of 2018 amounted to $14.7 billion, including $8.2 billion in imports and $6.5 billion in exports.

According to official statistics, the services sector holds a significant share in the total volume of exports at 29.8 percent.

The food products export increased by 60.9 percent thanks to the fruit and vegetable products exports increasing by 73.8 percent.

The fruit and vegetable products export value amounted to $305.4 million, which is 73.8 percent more than the same period last year. Share of fruits and berries amounted to 40.6 percent, vegetables - 49.0 percent, grapes - 7.5 percent.

The main trade partners of Uzbekistan in the CIS are Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. The main trade partners among other countries are China, Turkey, South Korea, Afghanistan, Germany, Latvia, Iran and France.

Earlier, the Uzbek national agricultural holding company O'zbekoziqovqatxolding and Chinese Xian Zhonghe Industrial Co. Ltd. signed a protocol of intention on additional supply of food products to China.
