Sales of expensive cars up in Kazakhstan

In January-May 2018, Kazakhs purchased 20,620 new cars worth 165.2 billion tenge, the Union of Enterprises of the Automobile Industry of Kazakhstan KazAvtoProm said in a message June 25.

According to the message, every fifth buyer in Kazakhstan chooses a car cheaper than 3.5 million tenge.

The average price of a passenger car in May reached 8.8 million tenge and increased by 14 percent (+ 1,089,668 tenge) compared to January 2018.

The average price of a domestic passenger car reached 5.3 million tenge in May (+20.4 percent or 911,061 tenge compared to January 2018).

Since early 2018, the biggest selling price was observed for such models as Hyundai Accent (+6 percent, or 450,000 tenge), Ravon R4 (+6 percent, +200,000 tenge) and Toyota Camry (+4 percent, +485,000 tenge). The price of Lada Granta and Toyota RAV 4 remained unchanged.

The lowest selling price was observed for Hyundai Tucson (-7 percent or 650,000 tenge), Hyundai Elantra (-4 percent or 250,000 tenge) and Lada 4x4 (-2 percent, 75,000 tenge).

A decrease in the share of the budget segment and vice versa - an increase in the segment of expensive cars was observed in May 2018 compared to January 2018.

Thus, the sale of cars worth less than 3.5 million tenge decreased from 28.7 percent to 13.5 percent.

More than a quarter of the car market in May accounted for the cars in the price category from 5 million tenge to 7 million tenge (28.7 percent), while in January this figure was 15.8 percent. The segment of business class cars (10-15 million tenge) also increased from 7.9 percent to 20.5 percent.
