Volume of lending by banks to Kazakhstan's economy increases

At the end of May, the volume of lending by banks to Kazakhstan's economy increased by 0.1 percent and amounted to 12.7 trillion tenge, the National Bank of Kazakhstan said in a statement June 28.

The National Bank noted that, the volume of loans issued to legal entities has decreased by 0.9 percent to 7.9 trillion tenge, and the volume of loans issued to individuals has increased by 1.9 percent to 4.7 trillion tenge.

"The volume of loans issued in the national currency has increased by 0.9 percent to 9.5 trillion tenge. In their structure, loans issued to legal entities have decreased by 0.2 percent, while loans issued to individuals have increased by 2.2 percent. The volume of loans issued in foreign currency has decreased by 2.2 percent to 3.1 trillion tenge, of which loans issued to legal entities decreased by 2.1 percent, and to individuals - by 3.4 percent. The share of loans issued in tenge at the end of May was 75.3 percent (in April 2018 - 74.7 percent)," the bank said.

According to the data provided by the financial regulator, the volume of long-term loans for the month increased by 0.3 percent to 10.9 trillion tenge, and the volume of short-term loans decreased by 1.1 percent to 1.8 trillion tenge. Lending to small businesses decreased by 1.2 percent to 2.7 trillion tenge (21.5 percent of total loans allocated to the economy).

By sector breakdown, the most significant amount of bank loans to the economy falls on such industries as trade (15.1 percent of the total volume), industry (14.5 percent), construction (6.8 percent), agriculture (5 percent) and transport (4.6 percent).
