Trade, industry sectors leading by amount of new small businesses in Uzbekistan

In the 1H2018, 25,900 new small businesses and micro-firms (excluding farms) were created in Uzbekistan, which is 8.6 percent more compared to the 1H2017, the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan stated.

According to information, the largest number of small enterprises and micro-firms was created in the trade sector (23.2 percent), industries (22.0 percent), construction (12.7 percent), agriculture, forestry and fisheries (12.4 percent), accommodation and meals (7.7 percent), transportation and storage (3.9 percent).

In Jan.-June 2016 the number of small businesses per 1,000 people was 10.8 units, in 2017 – 12.4 units, in 2018 this figure reached 12.8 units, which is 2 units higher than in 2016.

In Jan.-June of 2018, the share of small business in the country’s GDP was 49.2 percent (in Jan.-June 2017 – 54.3 percent). This decrease is caused by the growing number of large enterprises in the GDP structure.

I was earlier reported that in the 1H2018, 29,400 enterprises and organizations were created Uzbekistan, which is 4,400 (17.5 percent) more compared to the same period in 2017.

At the same time, the number of enterprises and organizations that ceased their activities, compared to the same period last year, decreased by 27.5 percent and amounted to 8,600.

As a result, the total number of operating enterprises and organizations since the beginning of 2018 has increased by 20,700 (7.3 percent) and amounted to 306,200.
