Azerbaijan sees rise in agricultural products output

The agricultural production value stood at 3.2 billion manats in Azerbaijan in January-June 2018, which is by 7.6 percent more than in the same period last year, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee said in a report.

In the reporting period, plant growing increased by 14.6 percent (to 1.4 billion manats), while livestock production – by 2.5 percent (to 1.77 billion manats).

During the reporting period, planting of spring crops ended in Azerbaijan.

As of June 24, 450,800 hectares were allocated for spring crops. In particular, 76,900 hectares were allocated for cereals and legumes (including 34,300 hectares for fodder corn), 59,300 hectares for potatoes, 69,200 hectares for vegetables, 20,900 hectares - for melons, 8,600 hectares for sugar beet, 11,500 hectares for sunflower, 3,400 hectares for tobacco, 132,500 hectares for cotton, 61,700 hectares for perennial grasses, 1,700 hectares for annual grasses and 5,100 hectares for other spring crops.

According to the report, 304,300 tons of potatoes (6.9 percent growth for the year), 593,300 tons of vegetables (5.8 percent growth for the year), 103,500 tons of fruits and berries (annual growth of 7.3 percent), 360.7 tons of green tea leaves (an increase of 10.5 percent for the year) were harvested in January-June 2018.

Besides, 245,200 tons of meat, 1,016,800 tons of milk, 887.4 million eggs and 14,500 tons of wool were produced in Azerbaijan in January-June 2018. Compared to January-June 2017, production of meat grew 3.1 percent, milk – 1.3 percent, eggs - 0.9 percent, while wool production fell by 1.4 percent.
