Uzbekistan to implement 10 investment projects in auto industry

Over the next three years, the Uzbek automaker, Uzavtosanoat, is going to implement 10 investment projects for a total of $290.9 million, $227.8 million of which will be spent on projects under the approved investment program, Uzbek media reported on Aug. 2.

Of the total volume, $65.1 million is planned to be spent on development of new models of cars, $110.7 million – on development of new models of commercial vehicles, $45.7 million – on development of spare parts and $6.2 million – on modernization of operating industries.

There are a number of joint ventures In Uzbekistan, such as GM Uzbekistan, SamAuto, JV MAN Auto-Uzbekistan, GM Powertrain-Uzbekistan, which produce cars and trucks, buses, special machinery, engines, a wide range of components and spare parts.

In 2017, GM Uzbekistan produced 140,247 cars, which is 59 percent more than in 2016. The Samarkand Automobile Plant produced 3,600 trucks and buses, with a growth rate of 5.5 percent compared to 2016. JV MAN Auto-Uzbekistan produced 1,200 trucks and buses in 2017.

Chairman of the Board of the automobile company Uzavtosanoat JSC Shavkat Umurzakov earlier announced that Uzbek automaker GM Uzbekistan will raise prices for cars from Aug. 1, 2018.

According to Umurzakov, the prices for the company's cars will grow by an average of 14 percent. The chairman of the board, however, noted that the company plans to provide discounts for consumers.

He also added that Uzavtosanoat has achieved an agreement with manufacturers of car components to reduce prices by an average of 20 percent by the end of 2018.

Umurzakov underlined that lowering the prices for components will reduce the cost of car production by 9 percent and increase production volume to 220,000 units per year.

The head of the company generally noted that Uzavtosanoat is planning to produce additional 140,000 cars by the end of 2018.
