In April-June 2018, the turnover of payment cards through ATMs and POS-terminals in Azerbaijan amounted to 4.25 billion manats, which is 6.8 percent more than in Jan.-March, reads the report of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan.
The total number of transactions with payment cards in April-June made up 28.29 million (an increase of 6.4 percent).
The number of operations on debit cards [both inside and outside the country] equalled to 24.8 million in the amount of 3.75 billion manats, of which almost 15.3 million operations in the amount of almost 3 billion manats were carried out through ATMs inside the country, and 2.5 million operations in the amount of 342 million manats through POS-terminals.
In April-June 2018, the banks' customers carried out via credit cards [both inside and outside the country] 3.46 million operations totalling 496 million manats (1.05 million operations amounting to 206 million manats with the help of ATMs inside the country, and 896,000 operations amounting to 103 million manats with the help of POS-terminals inside the country).
Number of payment cards, ATMs and POS-terminals
In April-June, the number of payment cards increased by 3 percent to 6.1 million compared to January-March.
Most of the cards – about 5.3 million – refers to debit cards, in particular, 2.5 million – to social cards, 1.88 million - to payroll cards, and 0.9 million – to other types of cards. The number of credit cards for this period amounted to 799,000.
As of July 1, 2018, there were 2,481 ATMs in the country, of which 1,340 are in Baku, 1,141 are in other cities and regions of the country. In April-June, the total number of ATMs increased by 26, or 1.06 percent.
The number of POS-terminals in the country amounted to 65,447, of which 36,499 were installed in Baku, 28,267 were installed in other cities and regions of the country.
In April-June, the number of POS terminals in Azerbaijan increased by 279, or 0.4 percent.
Volume of transactions in ATMs and POS-terminals
In April-June, one ATM accounted for 4,000 people in Azerbaijan, and one POS-terminal – for 150 people.
On average, 2,201.8 transactions amounting to 431,550 manats accounted for the share of one ATM in April-June. The amount of one transaction accounting for one ATM amounted to 196 manats.
On average, 17.4 transactions (an increase of 18.13 percent) in the amount of 2,263.6 manats (an increase of 3.3 percent) accounted for one POS terminal during the reporting period. The amount of one POS terminal transaction was 130.97 manats (a decrease of 12.7 percent).
