Kazakhstan increases coal transportation by rail

More than two million tons of coal were transported by rail in Kazakhstan in May-July this year, which is 35 percent more than in the same period last year, said a message from Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ) National Company.

The highest growth of 850,000 tons was recorded in June, which is 74 percent higher than last year.

"Over the last three months of this year, about 300,000 tons of solid fuel were delivered for the population and the municipal needs of Akmola region, which is 126,000 tons more than last year, 244,000 tons – to East Kazakhstan region, a growth by 124,000 tons, 456,000 tons – to Almaty region, a growth by 194,000 tons. The figures of coal supply to the Karaganda and South Kazakhstan regions significantly exceed the indicators for the same period last year," KTZ said.

At the same time, the tariff for transportation of coal by rail was not increased in the summer. Thus, the cost of transportation of one ton of coal along the Kyzylzhar-Astana route is 1 719.9 tenge, along the Degelen-Novo-Ust-Kamenogorsk route - 1 500.7 tenge, Degelen-Semey-824.5 tenge.

As of August 1 this year, the daily coal reserves in thermal power plants exceeded the standards established by the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan.
