Kazakhstan announces projected volumes of grain harvest

The gross grain harvest in Kazakhstan in the current year is projected at the level of 21-22 million tons, according to the forecasts of the agriculture departments of the regions, said the message on the official website of the country's prime minister.

Harvesting has started in Almaty, Zhambyl, Kyzylorda, Turkestan and East Kazakhstan regions as of August 9, 2018 according to the operational data of the agricultural departments of the regions.

The crop has been harvested from a total of 714,800 ha, or 37.9 percent of harvesting areas in the mentioned regions.

Currently,Food Contract Corporation JSC has formed a reserve stock of grain of 500,000 tons.

Most of the harvested crop is exported. Thus, 9.87 million tons of grain and flour in grain equivalent were exported from Kazakhstan in the past 2017/18 marketing year, according to preliminary estimates.

Annual production of grain crops in Kazakhstan is about 18-20 million tons. The export potential of Kazakhstan is 8-9 million tons of grain and flour in grain equivalent.

Kazakhstan is also one of the major producers of oilseeds. According to the data of the Ministry of Agriculture, this year oilseeds have been planted on an area of 2.8 million hectares (more than the level of 2017 by 375,000 hectares). Grain legumes have been sown on the area of 446,700 hectares (more than the level of 2017 by 400 hectares).
