Iran’s imports of mineral products on steep rise

The total amount of imports of minerals to Iran in the first two months of the current Iranian fiscal witnessed a 50 percent rise compared to the same period last year, a new report said.

Iran imported mineral products worth $5.2 billion in the first two months this year, registering a 7.8 percent in terms of value, according to the report carried by ISNA on August 11.

Mineral products worth $56 billion were imported to the Islamic Republic during the period, marking a 50 percent growth compared to last year’s total amount of imports in the sector mining and industry, the report added.

Iran exported more than 48.66 million tons of mineral products worth over $6.85 billion during the first nine months of the previous fiscal year (March 21-Dec. 21).

Iran is home to 68 types of minerals with more than 37 billion tons of proven reserves and 57 billion tons of potential reserves.

According to the United States Geological Survey, Iran holds the world’s largest zinc, ninth largest copper, 10th largest iron ore, fifth largest gypsum and barite and 10th largest uranium reserves.

Overall, Iran is home to more than 7 percent of global mineral reserves.
